This winter, give the eggnog and figgy pudding the night off and join us for an Adventure that's the (sake) bomb. Learn how to make some grub that won't give you a coronary, with a sushi-making and sake-tasting class.

Meet our merry maki makers at East Sacramento's Sushi Café, where the chic décor will make us feel like we're at a traditional Japanese festival complete with cherry blossoms and lanterns. We'll split up into smaller groups and take turns at different stations around the restaurant as we learn to prepare (and devour) three maki rolls: one California roll, one rainbow roll, and a special hand roll. We'll also munch on edamame as we try filtered and unfiltered sake varieties, learn about the distilling process, and get a lesson in how to distinguish between the two types of this Japanese rice wine.

Having been model students during our sushi class, it'll be time to try our hands at our own roll, which we'll then submit for judgment (and potential prizes) at the ultimate best roll competition. Really, though, with an evening of friends, fun, fish, and firewater, we'll all come out feeling like winners. And to toast our victory, we'll end with sake bombs all around.
