For kids who would rather being doing layups than laying about this summer, today's deal from The National Basketball Academy offers a real slam dunk opportunity: a New Orleans Hornets basketball camp. Pay $112 (regularly $225) and your son or daughter age 7 to 16 will get five days of instruction (5.5 hours each day, from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.) at Pelican Park-Brown Gym from 6/18 to 6/22 and 7/30 to 8/3, or from 7/9 to 7/13 at Muss Bertolino Gym, Lamar Dixon Gym, or Harahan Playground. Pay $120 (regularly $240) for camp at Big Easy Sports Complex from 7/16 to 7/20; or, pay $137 (regularly $275) for sessions at Big Easy Sports Complex or SYBA Gym 6/25 to 6/29. Youngsters can improve on-court skills with activities like drills, scrimmages, and individual coaching. Players focus on everything from shot mechanics and ballhandling to offensive strategy and defensive movement. Campers will take home a T-shirt, basketball, headband, and ticket to a Hornets home game -- that is, along with a host of new skills and confidence.
