It's true: Our regular Minnesotan winter has been replaced with temps that are about as tame as a prairie home companion.... until now. Enter our latest Keillor, er, killer Adventure: a wine tasting through the St. Croix River Valley, visiting three different wineries where we will taste five wines at each, with round-trip transportation and lunch.
We'll assemble at the 2750 Cleveland Ave Park & Ride in Roseville, where we'll board our premium coach bus and meet our vinous companions who'll make sure we have a vine time. Out first destination is Saint Croix Vineyards, home to the award-winning sweet La Crescent Dessert Wine. We'll sample five wines and learn some expert knowledge about our sips from a representative of the vineyard while we mingle by a fire in the barn-like tasting room. Next up is Northern Vineyards, abutting the Saint Croix River. We'll enjoy five tastings at this wine emporium, known for its barrel aged whites and Burgundies, and pair our vinous samples with some top-notch cheeses.
With our viticulture IQ reaching new, giggling depths, we'll treat our tummies to an equally satiating experience at Grecco's on the St. Croix, a fine dining haunt whose head chef is a Cordon Blue graduate and has worked up the professional ladder, landing at spots like the Ritz in San Francisco along the way. Here, we'll dine on a choice of the gourmet hot sandwiches, soups, and salads.
Following lunch, we'll arrive at the Chateau St. Croix Winery and Vineyard, an estate resembling the homes of Old Guard Europe, complete with an art gallery, stables, and gardens. After a tour of the winery, we'll toast to a beatific afternoon with five more wine tastings here and nibble on a chocolate pairing. Be sure to bring some extra cash—along with our sips, we'll have an opportunity to purchase more wine by the glass, and we'll receive discounts on select bottles to take home. As a reminder of our intoxicating day, we'll each receive a souvenir wine glass, so we can drink our vino in style at home. After this day of treating our taste buds to tannins and terroir, that lake of no-winter-woes will surely be gone. Now that's something worth broadcasting.
