We may have oppressive heat, incivility, and a survival-of-the-fittest mentality, but DC is, at best, a second-rate jungle. If you're pining for a taste of the real thing, branch out with this Adventure: a day of outdoor ziplining followed by a beer tasting at a nearby tavern.
We'll start the day by gathering at LivingSocial's brand new building at 918 F Street, where our team of Tarzans will be waiting. From there, we'll board a bus to Go Ape, an outdoor activity center set amid breathtaking scenery in Rockville, Maryland. Once we arrive, we'll leaf our troubles on the forest floor as experienced instructors help us take to the canopy for two to three hours of navigating zip lines, high wires, and tricky crossings (using ladders, walkways, bridges, wooden tunnels, and ropes), complete with field day games, trail hikes, picnic lunch and s'mores.
After we've had our fill of woodland fun, we'll lumber over to Growler's of Gaithersburg, a turn-of-the-century-themed tavern, where we'll enjoy a tasting of six handcrafted beers along with light appetizers and drink specials before heading back to the city. Don't be a sap—take a break from the concrete jungle for an afternoon firmly rooted in fun. After all, good things come in trees.
