Seattle may not technically be a desert, but Lake Union definitely qualifies as an oasis: a welcome tranquil refuge from the surrounding hustle and bustle. If chaotic city life has you yearning for replenishment, take the leap into a thirst quenching time with this Adventure: a guided sunset kayak tour of South Lake Union, followed by a lakeside picnic with a bowl of Pike Place Chowder's New England clam chowder and cookies.
We'll start by gathering at Moss Bay Row, Kayak, Sail, and Paddle Board Center, where our team of urban nomads will be waiting to equip us with a single or tandem kayak. No need to search for those long lost sunglasses—everyone will receive a pair of LivingSocial shades, along with sunglass cords, courtesy of the all-new Honda CR-V. Once we're afloat, we'll venture out onto the lake for a guided sunset tour, and take in a wellspring of sights, including Gasworks Park, beautiful houseboat communities, and (time permitting) the Seattle arboretum, all set against the breathtaking backdrop of the Seattle skyline. (While the weather could never dampen our spirits, Adventurers should be prepared in case it rains.)
After spending around two hours soaking in an early spring evening on the lake, we'll paddle back to the dock, where we'll warm up and refuel with a steaming bowl of New England clam chowder from Pike Place Chowder—winner of the Great Chowder Cook-Off in Newport, Rhode Island three years in a row—and sate our sweet tooth with yummy cookies. This Adventure is no mirage—but we recommend taking the leap quickly, so that you can check, "Sunset Kayaking" off of your leap list.
