How many times have you idled in traffic on the 400 Interstate, all the while thinking about escaping into the wilderness? With this Adventure, leave the highway churn behind and let the rush of water and open air set you free when you spend a day whitewater rafting in Tennessee with the option to also take part in a ziplining canopy tour (for an additional $54), all of which will finish with a dinner-time cookout.
For those who want to get in on all of the action, we'll gather at Wildwater Adventure Center in Ducktown, Tennessee, where we'll find our Adventures team alongside the Wildwater pros who know the terrain and wooded paths inside and out. After a brief safety tutorial, we'll strap on our helmets and head out above a 14-acre expanse of Big Frog wilderness, featuring nine zipline stations and three sky-high swing bridges. Having worked up an appetite, we'll dive into a box lunch of a sandwich, chips, drink, and cookie.
For those who only choose rafting, we'll meet up with the zipliners and our Whitewater guides for a safety tutorial before strapping on helmets and floating vests. We'll then board rafts to take on Class III and IV rapids we'll encounter as we move down the Ocoee River. Our guides will lead us through these fast and fun rapids that come with thrilling rocky escarpments and protruding foliage. Post soaking, the whole gang will re-assemble back at the center's restaurant, Wildwater Willie's Mine Shaft Restaurant where we'll chow down on a burger, chips, and baked beans while sipping on an ice cold beer, all courtesy of the restaurant. We'll also get to see ourselves in action with a digital photo, snapped by Whetstone Photography, that will be posted on Facebook after the event—a memento of the good times to tide us over during the next weekday traffic jam.
