Trickling down 285 in the dense summer traffic is almost as deflating as dealing with Atlanta's dense summer temps without an air conditioner. If you're looking for a way to pump yourself back up, float away from the gridlock-induced stress with this Adventure: a relaxing tubing trip along the Chattahoochee River followed by yard games and a boxed barbecue lunch.
First, we'll pop in at the Powers Island check point, where our team of river rafters will be waiting to help keep our spirits afloat. After we've been issued our tubes and life jackets by the pros at Urban Currents, we'll head out on the Chattahoochee for two to three hours of leisurely tubing along a three-mile stretch of a sunny, scenic waterway.
Once we've made landfall at Paces Mill Park, we'll get a ride back to Powers Island River Park, where we'll air out at an outdoor picnic. We'll blow through yard games and other outdoor activities before filling up on down-home grub with a hot boxed lunch (including a barbecue pork sandwich, potato salad, banana pudding, and a bottle of water) courtesy of D.B.A. Barbecue. Those who'd like to breathe a little more life into the party are free to BYOB—the perfect end to an Adventure that's sure to remind us what smooth sailing is all about.
