Seattleites aren't afraid of a challenge. We'll spend a week in the woods, brave months of rain—our salmon even swim upstream without batting an eye. Pay tribute to our penchant for doing things the hard way—and snack on some of that salmon while you're at it—with this Adventure: an intermediate sushi-rolling and sake-tasting class at Chiso restaurant in Fremont, followed by a hardcore sushi-making competition with prizes for the winners. (For those lucky LivingSocialites who have already joined us on our introductory Sushi Making and Sake Tasting class, this is the perfect next step to hone your skills.)
We'll start by heading to Chiso, where our team of LivingSocial taskmasters will be waiting to check us in and put us to the test. Once we settle in, we'll enjoy a starter salad while getting schooled in some serious sushi-making skills from Executive Chef Hirohiko Kirita. Students will learn how to prepare miso soup and two specialty rolls: Oishi Roll, shrimp tempura and asparagus with spicy crab, scallop, and scallion topping lightly seared on the outside; and Dragon Roll, shrimp tempura and cucumber on the inside with avocado and eel wrapped around the outside. We'll even get to savor our creations along the way and watch a demonstration on how to cut fish and make sushi rice. Since sober knife play would be too easy, we'll enjoy tastings of three different sake varieties as well as a full glass of our favorite. We'll end class with dessert, and additional beverages will be available for purchase.
For the grand finale, we'll split into teams for a head-to-head battle where each team makes a unique sushi roll from a set of secret ingredients (think: chili flakes, asparagus, and miso ice cream), with a bottle of sake for the winners. We'll all go home with a complimentary gift bag—and a battle-tested set of sweet new sushi skills.
