Barbecue, bourbon, and moonshine share more than just Southern roots—when done correctly, all involve seriously potent sauce. Get ready to douse yourself in delicious, finger-licking goodness—along with a side of powerful booze—with this Adventure: a lesson in the finer points of barbecue, along with a sampler meal and tastings of both bourbon and moonshine, all from one of Seattle's premier barbecue restaurants.
We'll start by heading to Pete's Fremont Firepit—a neighborhood favorite named after the area's old public fire pit—where our team of LivingSocial pitmasters will welcome us with a bourbon cocktail. Next, we'll roll up our sleeves for a hands-on lesson in how to make our very own restaurant-quality barbecue sauce. After an overview from the executive chef, we'll choose from a selection of multiple ingredients and concoct our own personalized sauce with just the right levels of tart, tangy, smoky, and sweet. Once we've bottled and custom-labeled it, it'll be ours to take home with us at the end of the night.
When we've completed our lesson, we'll really pour it on with a sampler platter of Pete's best barbecue items, along with a side and dessert (e.g., tender brisket, pulled pork, chicken wings, and delicious mac 'n' cheese). For a lesson in a different kind of sauce, we'll get a primer in the fundamentals of both bourbon and moonshine from the restaurant's experts, complete with a tasting of three different bourbon varieties and one moonshine (including Bulleit Rye, double gold 2011 recipient at the San Francisco World Spririts competition, Buffalo Trace Bourbon, and Woodinville Whiskey Company). Don't settle for another bland night out—spice things up with an Adventure that's got a real kick.
