If the falling temperatures remind you of a descending diatonic scale, the disappearing green has you feeling Kind of Blue, and the autumn leaves make you hum "Autumn Leaves," then it's time to face facts: you're addicted to jazz. Usher in fall on a high note with this hep Adventure: an evening filled with jazz, dancing, wine, and great food at a winery, complete with round-trip transportation.
We'll start by heading to our check-in point in Roseville, where our LivingSocial bebop brigade will be waiting to load us onto a bus bound for Chateau St. Croix—a stunning winery and vineyard nestled in the Wisconsin countryside. Once we arrive, we'll be escorted to the elegant tent abutting the European-style chateau set amid the winery's rolling hills and colorful fall foliage for a welcome reception with drinks (one glass of wine per person), as well as our first course: a panzanella salad with a balsamic reduction.
Once the evening's in full swing, we'll speed up the tempo with a 30-minute professional dance lesson where we'll learn several swinging moves in preparation for the main event: three sets of live jazz by Jessie Bryan & That Thing Called Swing. As the band plays, we'll enjoy our next two courses served family-style: spinach stuffed chicken breasts with mushroom sherry cream and apple brained pork loins with cranberry chutney served with heaping sides of wild rice pilaf, garlic baby red potatoes, and roasted autumn root vegetables. As the evening winds down, we'll sweeten up with our final course: a pumpkin pie tart accompanied by hot apple cider—all courtesy of Paradise Landing Restaurant. After one final set of cool music and hot dancing, we'll hop onto our coach buses and head back to the Twin Cities. Jazz-lovers will agree: This musical autumn Adventure is sure to strike a (diminished 7th) chord.
