You've spent enough time circling the 2nd Street lot and idling on Lincoln to slink into a daydream of just flying off. Give your flights of fancy some real-life elevation with this Adventure: an early evening on the Santa Monica pier with trapeze flying, lyra, trampoline, and a hot chocolate bar.
Upon arrival, we'll meet our buoyant and airborne-prone hosts, who'll walk us through safety specifics and pass out necessary gear (wear warm, loose, and comfortable clothing). Guiding the action will be Trapeze School of New York, which has been cultivating a bicoastal acrobatic following for more than a decade while also appearing in popular travel magazines.
With gear and brio in pocket, we'll spend the first hour on the trapeze, hanging from our feet on a fast-moving crossbar before connecting hand-in-hand with our approaching mid-air partner. Fear not—there will be a safety net. The next hour will be split between the large trampoline and the lyra. Expect to grab big air as instructors give you pointers on how to approach flips, twists, and other dramatic moves. The lyra—a wide hanging metal hoop—will also bring out the inner gymnast in all of us.
After landing a perfect dismount, we'll trundle toward the DIY hot chocolate and marshmallow counter, catching the sun's golden orb tuck itself behind the twinkling Pacific.
