School's out, and we have some suggestions on how to spend your summer—and they don't include a reading list. To us, the quintessential summer-done-right requires three months of great friends, juicy barbecue, cold brews, and a decent dosage of water sports. This Adventure wraps it all into one day, with an 8.5-hour excursion of whitewater tubing through Harpers Ferry followed by a Beer-B-Q Picnic (three beers included).
Join us at the Park and Ride, just off Route 70 at Exit 94, in Baltimore near Security Boulevard. From there, we'll hop on a shuttle to the river, where we'll receive safety instruction, equipment, and a standard PVC vinyl tube, courtesy of River Riders, pros of the paddle who have been serving the Harpers Ferry area for more than 30 years. Then, get ready to cruise on down the mighty Potomac for a 2.5-hour tubing trip that will render all other modes of transportation positively pedestrian.
Once you've docked your vessel, celebrate your deft navigational skills with a picnic of three beers, hot dogs, burgers, fried chicken, macaroni salad, and cookies. (Fret not, noble herbivores, there will be vegetarian options as well.) After ingesting and imbibing to your heart's (and stomach's) content, your trusty shuttle will return you to your vehicle, as you close out this dynamite day with a batch of new friends, a sense of fulfilled exhaustion, and a full belly. Now, isn't that how summer is supposed to be?
