What do you get when you mix kids and cooking? Well, usually a mess, but under the guidance of chef Tessy Medley of Classy Kids Cook culinary school, your kid will be concocting creations that'll leave you cleaning up with a fork, not a mop. For $29, kids ages 6 and up can bite into a two-hour after-school cooking class at the school's new location in McLean Gardens (a $59 value). Menus change every week, with different themes each day, like baking on Tuesdays, regional cuisine on Thursdays (your kid might just come home with a new love of gumbo), or boot camp cooking techniques on Fridays. Classes have an open arrival time to accommodate school schedules, opening at 3 p.m.. The lessons start at 4 p.m. and finish at 6 p.m., and have been featured in the Washington Post. In this spacious kitchen, kids will learn about cooking safety as well as flavors, mixing up lots of good times.
