"Paddleboarding is much easier than I expected. The board is stable and fast. The first time on the board was so exciting. It is an amazing feeling to be standing up paddling." - First-Time Paddler
The stand-up paddleboarding lesson covers safety precautions and the basics of handling your board, different stances for paddling, and how to get back on your board if you're knocked off. Then, you'll move on to maneuvering skills like how to paddle forward, spin, stop, brace, turn, and move sideways, with plenty of games and challenges to help you practice and get comfortable. The school also uses inflatable boards that are soft and easy handling, which are ideal for beginners, and lessons take place at Valley Mill Camp from May to September.
The Intro to Whitewater Kayaking lesson takes place at Riley's Lock for beginners, just a few minutes away from Valley Mill. Learn what gear is for and how to wear it, basic strokes and how to control the kayak, kayaking concepts like arc and angle, and bow rescues in the event of a kayak flip. More advanced sessions focus on bracing yourself and using the paddle to prevent flipping, as well as different turns to control your kayak.
