Summer holiday weekends are great for grilling with friends and family, but ash-laden clothing and smoke-soaked manes are so last year. Spend Memorial Day weekend in hip Silver Lake instead, taking in the sights, sounds, and tastes of the 3rd annual Jubilee street festival presented by the Los Angeles Arts & Athletics Alliance: Pay $10 (regularly $20) for a single day pass. This year's Jubilee boasts a wide lineup of killer local bands, like Aloe Blacc, Kinky, Abe Vigoda, Autolux, Dunes, and dozens more. You'll also get access to more than 15 food trucks, 75 craft vendors, and 40 comedians and performers hosted by Iliza Shlesinger; booths by local artists; and a wide selection of adult beverages. Can't cram it all into one day? Pay $17 (regularly $35) and get a pass for the entire weekend. Your entry to this year's Jubilee helps to support local schools, community organizations, artists, and musicians -- and kids 10 and under and seniors over 60 get in free. Back away from the charcoal, chief -- this ultra-cool event will help you beat the heat.
