When Kaskaid Hospitality, the group behind CRAVE, announced its plans for Urban Eatery early last year, critics and Minneapolis diners rejoiced with the news that chef Jim Kyndberg—whom City Pages touts "a real talent"—was back behind the stoves after closing his beloved Bayport Cookery. Experience Kyndberg's artful cooking style, as tasted through his modern gastropub fare, at a five-course tasting menu with wine pairings ($95) on April 4. Valet service, gratuity, and all other fees are included.
In Urban Eatery's homey dining room, outfitted with reclaimed-wood planks and chalkboard walls, chef Josh Voge, Kyndberg's understudy, will roll out a lineup of artistic dishes to stand up to wine from Silver Oak and its younger sister, Twomey Cellars. At family-style tables, start with prosciutto-wrapped sea scallops with a clementine reduction, red pepper coulis, and Marcona almonds, paired with Twomey Sauvignon Blanc. Move to crispy pork belly with shaved fennel and a quail's egg along with a glass of Twomey Pinot Noir. Mediterranean-inspired lamb carpaccio of lamb comes next with Twomey Merlot, followed by seared duck breast with black-truffle sauce and Silver Oak's signature Alexander Cabernet Sauvignon.
Finish with an artisan cheese plate: Wisconsin's nutty Pleasant Ridge Reserve with caramelized walnuts, single-source honey, and blackberry-balsamic reduction. Try finding a dish that sophisticated at your typical gastropub.
