Our neighbors to the east have banked big on the Cajun culture and living in Bayou Country, but we know how to let the good times roll, too. Join hundreds of Houstonians on May 19 from 3 to 9 p.m. for the annual Houston Crawfish Festival with a ticket for $10 (a $20 value). Nothing unites a diverse city like ours better than heaps of succulent food, a beer garden, and live music, which is why this "backyard bash" downtown draws such a large crowd. Bring an appetite and get ready to peel all-you-can-eat mud bugs -- and, unlike in Louisiana, sucking the heads is optional. Sign up for the crawfish eating contest if you think you've got the staying power. You can jam to live zydeco, jazz, and blues and prove that the Big Easy isn't the only town to laissez les bons temps roller.
