The restaurant earns accolades annually; Zagat has ranked it number-one for seafood in the Chicago area every year since 1993, and Wine Spectator has bestowed it with the "Award of Excellence" every year since 1994. Settle into the Spanish-style dining room as dinner gets underway with a chef-selected amuse-bouche, which could be anything from tuna tartare to smoked salmon.
For an appetizer, choose from sea scallops with cabbage, lobster-soy broth, and kimchi; calamari and shrimp with watermelon radish, candied ginger and Meyer lemon, and daikon; or beets with warm goat cheese, artichoke, and sherry vinaigrette. The third course, a wonderful seasonal sorbet, cleanses the palate for your choice of entrée: Lake Erie walleye with spring garlic, pea tips, and purple potatoes; yellowfin tuna from Hawaii with bacon, turnips, and seasonal mushrooms; or organic salmon from Scotland's Shetland Islands with fava beans, butternut squash, and poblano peppers. And for the fifth and final course, chef Grosz will serve a selection of house-made pastries—a reminder that the harvests of the land taste pretty good, too.
