It's no secret that DC is one of the hottest sightseeing destinations in the country (Hey, look! It's Bo!). But here's some real intel: the Sheraton National Hotel—just across the river in the shadow of the Pentagon—is the perfect hidden spot to hang your trench coat and set down your camera-pen.

You and a fellow stealth traveler will have one night in a traditional room for two with plush pillow-top mattresses and stunning views of the monuments—and no wiretaps. Throw in free parking and a pair of Metro cards and you've got an ideal staycation or quick Escape that couldn't be made easier.

Wake up to a breakfast for two at the Potomac Restaurant, which might mean Belgian waffles with strawberries or steel-cut oatmeal with cinnamon, pecans, and raisins. If you feel like seeing how the real spies operate, head to the International Spy Museum, where you can play gumshoe in a live-action mission or check out artifacts like a KGB shoe transmitter or James Bond's Aston Martin.

From there, head to the National Museum of Natural History—scope the FBI Building on the way—and marvel at the Hope Diamond. If you're hungry, grab a baguette sandwich at Cowgirl Creamery—a tasty cheese shop on F Street Northwest—and snack on the steps of the National Portrait Gallery, or drop into one of star chef José Andrés's many nearby small-plates spots, such as the Spanish-themed Jaleo or the Turkish-and-Lebanese-accented Zaytinya.

There's plenty to do closer to your hotel headquarters, too. The Air Force Memorial doesn't get as much hype as many of the monuments on DC's Mall, but it's a prime spot from which to see Arlington National Cemetery and the Pentagon. The area is also home to The Drug Enforcement Administration Museum, which features a 150-year history of drugs in America, along with little-seen relics like a diamond-covered gun from a Columbian drug dealer.

It's an Escape so jam-packed with fun and fascination it'll be hard to resist spilling the secret.
