Ocean City, Maryland: Family-Friendly Boardwalk next to the Atlantic

Along Ocean City’s century-old boardwalk, you can savor wild-caught blue crab, play old-fashioned arcade games, and watch candy makers spin colorful saltwater taffy. The lively boardwalk, which stretches for just over two miles along Maryland’s eastern shore, helped earn Ocean City a spot on USA Today’s list of the “10 great places to have some fun on a boardwalk.” Kids can ride a Ferris wheel and climb aboard one of the country’s oldest carousels at Trimper’s Amusement Park, a family-owned theme park open for more than 100 years.

Assateague Island National Seashore—a 37-mile stretch of salt marshes running from Ocean City down to Virginia—offers a peaceful reprieve from the boardwalk’s constant activity. The island’s famous wild horses gallop on the shores, and you can climb up a vintage, candy-striped lighthouse, or hike the seaside forests to spot birds, including great horned owls, ruby-crowned kinglets, and great blue herons.

An older hotel with lots of charm, a great beach view and a restaurant on site. It's a few blocks away from the OC boardwalk but centralized to many restaurants and shops within a short walking or driving distance.

Hotel was really nice. Beds were exceptional. Very comfortable. Ocean view balcony was nice. Water pressure was poor and our room wasn’t ready at check in. But overall it was a nice experience and I would recommend it.

Amazing and picture-perfect view of the Atlantic from the balcony, well-designed room, comfy beds, and delicious carry-out food from the restaurants in the hotel. We were very impressed with the staff's every effort at meeting COVID protocols, and the extra helpfulness of guest services.

Wished we got to stay longer. My boyfriend and I did an overnight stay at Dunes Manor Hotel!!! It’s was a very nice and comfortable place to stay. The room did not smell mildew like and it was well clean and sanitized even though I wiped it again with my own Clorox wipes that I brought. Very convenient, beach is right behind and connected to the hotel. Broad walk one block away. Will be back!!!
