Hotel at a Glance: Hotel Union Square

Hotel Union Square was built over 100 years ago in preparation for the Pan Pacific Exposition in 1915, but its interior has gotten a fresh new look. A sleek black, white, and gray lobby strikes a modern look with geometric tiles, sleek silver lighting fixtures, and lots of clean lines. Situated just a four-minute walk from Union Square, it’s easy to explore nearby neighborhoods of Nob Hill and Tenderloin as well.

  • Unwind in the lobby each evening during a wine reception with live music (5 p.m. - 7 p.m.)
  • Stay fit with complimentary access to a fitness center within walking distance.
  • In-room amenities: 43-inch TVs with Google Chromecast, luxury bedding, and high-speed WiFi.
  • Architectural inspiration: a fusion of art deco and classic San Francisco–style.

San Francisco’s Union Square: Luxury Shopping District with Broadway Shows

Union Square is where San Franciscans go to find their coolest threads. The Square, which has grown to include several surrounding blocks, houses one of the country’s densest concentrations of department stores and upscale boutiques. Neiman Marcus, Saks Fifth Avenue, and Macy’s anchor its namesake plaza, and smaller boutiques are tucked along narrow alleyways. Shoppers can sift through vintage books at family-owned antique shops and admire iconic French fashion labels on the pedestrian-only Maiden Lane.

Union Square is also famous for its eclectic arts scene. The American Conservatory Theater produces Tony Award–winning dramas and comedies in a gorgeous Beaux Arts building. A handful of art galleries and museums—most notably the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art—display renowned works from artists such as Henri Matisse, Andy Warhol, and Edward Hopper.

Very nice. We'll be going back for sure. Small but clean rooms and great staff. We enjoyed the wine reception in the lobby and the music by Paul was a lot of fun. Great way to start a wonderful night in the city. Use the valet parking... The lot next door is way too small.

I had a Queen Deluxe room. The staff was incredibly helpful and friendly, the location is central to museums and dining. It was a bit noisy, but otherwise super easy to navigate. They also have a "free" wine every night in the lobby. Would definitely book again!

Decent hotel. Old building so room aren’t perfect and new but it was very clean and hotel staff very nice. Room was smaller then expected and had kind of a musty smell..but after running the air seemed to clear.

Ok, so this was definitely PETITE. They did not show the petite room in the pictures, so we were expecting something similar to the one queen in the pictures. The room had enough space for the bed and to walk around the bed. No A.C., just a ceiling fan. Tiny bathroom as small as an RV bathroom. I felt claustrophobic. However, I'm giving 4 stars because customer service was amazing. Upgraded us.

It's location. Block and a half above Powell St. Bart and metro station. Good restaurants and bars near by. Close to good shopping.
