San Diego, California: Electric Nightlife and Historical Attractions

San Diego’s sunny, comfortably warm weather and 70 miles of coastline have long attracted out-of-towners, but the city’s inland scene is no slouch, either. The Gaslamp Quarter is arguably the trendiest listing on the National Register of Historic Places. The area forms both the historic center of town and a hub of nightlife, with nearly 100 Victorian-era buildings occupied by high-end boutiques and gourmet restaurants.

A stroll through iconic Balboa Park takes you past 17 museums, as well as the world-famous San Diego Zoo. There’s also the vibrant Spanish Village Art Center, a living gallery where local artists produce pottery and oil paintings. In Old Town, shops in Mission-style stucco buildings sell colorful woven baskets and maracas. Nearby stands the Whaley House Museum, dubbed one of the Most Terrifying Places in America by the Travel Channel. Ghosts of former residents are said to inhabit the rooms, which are filled with Victorian furniture and eerie dolls.

This was a last minute stay and for the price I paid it was reasonable. It's about 1.2 miles from Mission Beach. A walk away from many restaurants. The pool is a located at their sister hotel. Wasn't a far walk but odd. It said the pool was heated but not sure that was on yet as the water was cold. I guess we're not to the point of needing a heated pool.

Great location. Nothing fancy, but staff friendly and room was clean. Environment felt like a Venice beach vibe.

Location was good. But it seems to be a transient/party hotel. Mgmt failed to keep people from partying all night (in the room next door to us), even when the party room was above the office and the office staff indicated that they heard them all night when I complained at check out! Room was DAMP...very humid inside the room. Did tell the hotel staff so that they could get a dehumidifier in there.

The location is great! The room smelled terrible!!! I tried calling the front desk but kept getting a busy signal. The smell was bad so I went to the fri t desk and asked for air freshener. I’m sure they would not have changed my room so I didn’t even ask. The woman at the front desk was kind enough to give me a can of freshener upon my request. I kept the can of spray in my room until check out.
