About Smith Commons
A three-story neighborhood bistro, Smith Commons stands amid a vibrant three-block stretch of H St. NE, an up-and-coming area of edgy bars, new restaurants, and hip coffee shops that has been attracting attention over the past few years—including the attention of President Barack Obama. Toward the end of his 2012 campaign, the President dined on Smith Commons’s upscale, yet approachable, menu of American and international cuisine with three winners of his “Dinner with Barack” campaign contest. Yet, even when the President is not in the house, there is still plenty to get excited about.
The restaurant houses three bars, where bartenders pour wine, beer, and modern cocktails, which can be enjoyed on the outdoor deck. Meanwhile, In the main dining room—which woos diners with exposed brick walls, dark wood furniture, and supple leather accents—chefs serve main courses such as gingerbread-dusted scallops and butternut squash ravioli. And in keeping with the bustling arts district around them, Smith Commons also hosts a variety of live music and events, such as their ongoing series of craft beer and music nights, #CommonsMonday, as well as the recent #CraftClubHouse, which celebrated local craftsmanship with local brewers, clothing designers, and musicians.
