The Destination
History runs deep in Roslyn—literally. Once a booming coal town (at its height, home to more than 4,000 miners and a less-than-savory "service" industry), this blip on the map just south of Cle Elum Lake has surfaced as one of Central Washington's best-preserved hamlets. In addition to its good-ol'-days personality, the town of fewer than 1,000 is rife with opportunities for wine tasting and antiquing, not to mention outdoor adventure on the border of the four-million-acre Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest. For an authentic local experience, visit town institutions Roslyn Brewing Company and Roslyn Theater.

The Digs
About 90 minutes east of Seattle, the four-room Huckleberry House is a little B&B with a lot of charm. Cozy accommodations at this eco-friendly inn are appointed with soft beds draped in organic cotton sheets; antique bureaus, rugs, and chairs; and private bathrooms with clawfoot tubs or large showers. But the real attraction is the wraparound porch that looks out onto Roslyn and the striking Immaculate Conception Church. Be sure to grab a book from the upstairs library before you while away an afternoon in this idyllic setting.

  • "The Huckleberry House was cozy with a private bathroom for each room. The beds were extra comfy and warm. We were staying in January with lots of snow outside our windows. Two couples in our group brought dogs and were very happy with the accomodations."
