The Destinations
A multifaceted, modern country with more than 5,000 years of history, 3.7 million square miles of land, and one billion people, China is difficult to capture in words. Still, there's no better place to start than the mega metropolises of Beijing and Shanghai on the east coast. Travelers can see the past reflected in the solid gaze of a jade Buddha and the stony towers of the Great Wall of China, or catch a glimpse of the future in the space-age architecture of the Beijing National Stadium, the site of the 2008 Summer Olympics. Between strolling the open expanses of the Forbidden City and the crowded shopping district of Nanjing Road, every visit to this vast land is the trip of a lifetime.

Let Beijing and Shanghai introduce you to today's China on this eight-day trip, courtesy of SNA Tours.

day 3: The day begins with a trip to Tiananmen Square, one of the largest and grandest public plazas in the world. From there, you'll take an extensive tour inside the imposing walls of the Forbidden City, the Chinese imperial palace and exclusive domain of the emperors for nearly 500 years. After seeing the Bird's Nest and Water Cube, you'll head to the largest jade factory in Beijing to learn about the history and manufacture of jade in China. Next up will be an excursion through the rugged mountains north of the city to the Great Wall. You'll walk along the top of the iconic structure, admiring the peerless views and soaking up the once-in-a-lifetime experience. The evening brings a traditional roast Peking duck dinner, considered the national dish of China.

day 5: In store for your last day in Beijing is a visit to the Temple of Heaven, the holiest imperial temple in the city and a stunning example of Chinese architecture and landscape design.
