The Destination
Roads don't exist between villages in Greenland—just miles of flower-and-berry-strewn tundra that stretches endlessly toward the Atlantic Ocean. Inside centuries-old Inuit settlements, dog sleds often outnumber people, and a sweet kind of solitude is defined by a rush of melting snow cascading into icy inlets, silent but for the call of whales. Blue glaciers glow halogenic against a backdrop of towering fjords painted anew each night in a bath of Northern Lights. If it is true that present-day travelers have to journey to the end of the earth for a true adventure, Greenland takes them to the edge of the world and beyond.

Sail through this untouched land with one of two 14-day adventure cruises from Quark Expeditions.

The Itineraries

Overnight aboard Sea Spirit.
day 3: Today is spent at sea in the Denmark Strait.

day 7: Experience the geothermal hot springs of Uunaartoq and Hvalsey (Qaqortoq). Watch passing icebergs, visit the 14th-century ruins of Hvalsey Church, and explore 18th- and 19th-century Inuit ruins that pepper South Greenland's largest town.

Option 2—East Greenland and Northern Lights Package:
day 1: Your adventure begins with an overnight stay in thoroughly-modern Reykjavik, the world's northernmost capital city.
Overnight at Radisson Blu, Reykjavik.

Overnight aboard Sea Spirit.
days 8 through 11: Arrive in Scoresbysund, the largest and longest fjord system in the world. You'll have a great opportunity to see the Northern Lights here as well as immerse yourself in Inuit culture in Ittoqqortoormitt. From here, you'll sail on toward Sydkap, Øfjord, and Rypefjord, where sightings of rare blue icebergs and exotic birds are common. At Cape Hofmann Halvø, you will have a chance to encounter grazing musk oxen on a final hike through the colorful tundra.
Overnight aboard Sea Spirit.
days 12 and 13: Begin your homeward journey re-crossing the Denmark Strait, giving you a couple of days for whale watching. You may see white-beaked dolphins and humpback, minke, and blue whales. Birders have enjoyed spotting kittiwakes, gannets, guillemots, fulmars, and razorbills on the journey back to Iceland.
Overnight aboard Sea Spirit.
day 14: Your Greenland adventure comes to an end as you enter port in Reykjavik.
