We were in Richmond to see a show at The National, which is about 6 blocks away. (Great venue, by the way, if you enjoy live music.) Wound up here by bidding and we were satisfied with the stay. We weren't really interested in the hotel's amenities since we were basically only in the room to sleep. Continental breakfast was a plus. For the price it's an ideal place for a night downtown.
pros: Liked the historic feel of the hotel and the location downtown was great. The desk staff were great as well. Room was spacious and clean, if spartan.
cons: I'm surprised that not all hotel rooms have a refrigerator in them in 2013. Was told there was a room with a fridge but for an extra cost. Parking, as you would expect downtown, is limited and $15 to valet seems pointless with no liability.

Overall, descent place to stay, just did not like having to pay for valet but had a choice to park on the street but that would have been a 2 hour limit.
pros: In downtown location.
cons: Had to pay for valet parking and man at front desk rude and they do not allow late check-out.

The clean and spacious room made for a pleasant stay. The beds were very comfortable, along with the central air and good sized shower and bathroom. I plan to return and have recommended it to friends already.
pros: Besides the very friendly and helpful staff, I really enjoyed staying in a very well maintained Historic site. The experience is memorable.
