hotel description

The Destination

True to the Mexican half of its Tex-Mex roots, San Antonio is not unlike a piñata—chock full of surprises and exploding with excitement. History buffs, of course, will not want to forget the Alamo, but more contemporary travelers will find a host of modern attractions along the city's meandering River Walk—a tree-lined waterfront playground where cafes and clubs virtually spill over the banks. Art galleries and fusion restaurants are in no short supply, and the bustling open-air mercado at Market Square offers everything from hand-crafted turquoise jewelry and Western wear to the choicest local produce.

The Digs

Opened in 1962, El Tropicano Riverwalk Hotel was the first hotel to open on the River Walk. While much has changed over the last half century, the hotel's dedication to style has not. Fashioned after the trendy Acapulco beach resorts of the time, El Trop became popular with rock stars and celebrities and has retained its vintage vibe ever since. Pop into Mangos, the on-site restaurant, and enjoy a casual breakfast, lunch, or dinner before heading out to stroll the South Bank. The hotel also features a fitness center, a seasonal outdoor pool, fire pits, and complimentary Wi-Fi throughout. Newly redecorated Leisure rooms are appointed in modern style with one king or two full beds, a desk and ergonomic chair, a 37-inch flat-screen TV, and a pulsating shower head in the bathroom.
