Excellent hotel. Gorgeous architecture. Rooms are spacious. Beds are comfortable. Free wifi in lobby. I was turned off that housekeeping did not replace toiletries like shampoo. Best thing about the hotel is the location!
pros: Location is right next to BART station and a short walk to Union Square.
cons: The housekeeping staff did not respond to request. They also did not restock toiletries the following day.

After bidding for a 4 star hotel and getting Palace hotel, I was a little concerned with the reviews saying that the walls were thin characteristic of an old hotel. Well, they were definitely thin, but with the AC/heat running all night, it created enough bearable white noise to drown out the noise from other rooms/hallway. The room was small, but like others said the high ceilings made up for that. The rooms were in good shape considering the age of the hotel - still classy. The shower had good water pressure, but there was a little mold on a section of the grout. The best part was the very comfortable bed and pillows. We like beds firm and it was firm, but soft on top. The grand hall was nice although we didn't dine there.
pros: high ceilings, location is great, some character, comfortable bed
cons: thin walls, small rooms

pros: I loved the building and the pool area.
cons: I came back with bites all over the place. I believe the room I was in had bed bugs and wrote the hotel and have not heard back from them as of yet. Really disgusted with that fact. Hoping they look into sanitizing the room.
