The Destination
The stage was set in the Gilded Age, when prominent families from Pennsylvania and New York came to vacation in the seaside town of York Harbor, Maine. Today, palatial "summer cottages" still dot the shoreline and a pristine way of life prevails, enhanced by the beauty of the Atlantic Ocean. Just 20 minutes north of Portsmouth, New Hampshire, this picturesque coastal town and former summer-only resort is a serene Escape in any season. Home to one of the most photographed lighthouses in the US and the national headquarters of Stonewall Kitchen, there are plenty of things to do and see—from antique shops and art galleries to the Fisherman's Walk and the historic "Wiggly Bridge".

The Digs
Settled on a rocky peninsula skirting a sandy beach and luminous waters, Stage Neck Inn represents the best of the Yorks. The romantic accommodations feature British Colonial furnishings, two double beds with sumptuous fine linens, and French sliding doors leading out to a private balcony. On top of offering deluxe in-room extras like complimentary wireless Internet, cable TV, and plush terry robes, the Inn invites guests to relax at the indoor pool and hot tub, work out at the fitness center, unwind in the co-ed sauna, and indulge in treatments at the posh spa. In the summer months, an outdoor pool, clay tennis courts, and a poolside snack bar round out the offerings.

The Diversions

  • "The Stage Neck Inn has been a premier property on the Southern Maine Coast for 40 years. It is the only property in New England to have consistently earned the AAA Four Diamond Award for Excellence from 1976, when the rating system was started..."

  • "Perched on a small peninsula that juts into York Harbor, this boutique inn wins over visitors with its stunning locale...But for many, it's the inn's quality customer service that clinches the deal."
