The Destination
Costa Rica leads the pack when it comes to preserving the environment, with about a quarter of its land protected by national parks. More than 500,000 species—roughly four percent of Earth's total—live within its borders, from the world's fastest lizard to the rarely seen but always-heard howler monkey. It's also home to Arenal, one of the planet's most active volcanoes, and one of the largest sea turtle nesting grounds in the world. Is there anything Costa Rica can't do? Discover it all with a little help from Ecoterra Costa Rica.

day 4: After breakfast in the morning, you'll head out to the Monteverde cloud forest. The trip takes around three hours, which includes a half-hour boat ride on Arenal Lake. After check-in at the Monteverde Country Lodge (or similar hotel), you'll make your way to the El Trapiche tour, which takes visitors around the plantations of bananas, plantains, arracache, macadamia, oranges, cocoa, sugar cane, and coffee. You'll learn about the sugarcane process, coffee and cocoa cultivation, and natural history, and you'll get the opportunity to taste the product and its derivatives.

day 5: The day begins with a trip to Sámara & Carrillo Beach. There, you'll check in at Guanamar Beach Resort, which sits within walking distance of many shops, restaurants, and bars. Then you'll have two options depending on the tide and sea level: One is to do the Dolphin Sightseeing and Snorkeling tour, the other is to save this for the following day and spend today at your leisure.

On the Dolphin Sightseeing and Snorkeling tour, you'll go two to ten miles offshore to search for these playful animals. You could be lucky enough to see spotted dolphins, Central American spinner dolphins, common bottlenose dolphins and humpback whales. Along the way back to the coast, you'll anchor near the shores of Isla Chora for a dip in the water.
Overnight at Guanamar Beach Resort. Breakfast provided.

days 6 and 7: Spend the day at your leisure, or take an optional tour (turtle observation, deep-sea fishing, ATV tours, kayak tours, horseback riding, and more).
