The Destination
It may be in Iceland, but Reykjavík feels as warm and inviting as the geothermal pools that bubble up around it. White row houses with multi-colored roofs line the city's eminently walkable downtown streets, where creative types while away the brief winter days at cafés and coffeehouses.

Even when the nights are long, residents find solace in daily soaks at the Laugardalslaug, a restorative set of geothermally-heated waters at the town's center. Further out of town—and closer to the city's airport—lie the milky pools of the Blue Lagoon, famous for its mineral-rich, therapeutic benefits. Indulgent spa treatments performed with the Blue Lagoon's seawater have the added effect of rejuvenating visitors before an evening out in Iceland's cultural capital. Below the soaring belfry of the stunning Hallgrimskirkja church, a maze of pubs, music clubs, and theaters has birthed artists like Bjork and Sigur Rós.

With so many reasons to stay up late, there's no way you'll miss the dazzling spectacle of the Northern Lights—a colorful capstone to a five-day Escape, brought to you by go-today.

The Itinerary
day 1: Board your flight from the US to Reykjavík.

day 2: Arrive in Reykjavík and board your shared auto transport to the Reykjavík Lights Hotel, where you'll be treated to early check-in and breakfast.

Explore the city at your leisure, or make your way to Laugar Spa and Fitness Center (Thursdays and Fridays only) and the World Class Gym, where cardio machines face windows with a view of Laugardalslaug, Reykjavík's largest geothermal pool. Enjoy a sweat in the themed saunas, a soak in the bathing salt-filled hot tubs, or even a swim in Laugardalslaug. Rinse off before hopping into this chemical-free pool, where volcanic water keeps the temperature at a perfect 84°F. Get steamy in one of the "hot pots," or Jacuzzi pools, then get a thrill on the nearly 200-foot water slide. Dry off, then make the short trip back to the soothing pastel rooms and minimalist décor of the hotel.
Overnight at Reykjavík Lights Hotel. Breakfast provided.

day 3: Enjoy breakfast at the hotel before embarking on the included 2.5-hour guided bus tour of Reykjavík. Outside of the city, you'll travel south to Bessastaðir to see the presidential residence, then head to Hafnarfjörður, where local legends say elves dwell among humans. Back in the Reykjavík, you see the Höfði house, where the 1986 summit between former US President Ronald Reagan and former USSR Secretary General Mikhail Gorbachev took place. You'll also see Hallgrímskirkja church, the old town centre—which houses the Icelandic parliament and the town hall—and more.
Overnight at Reykjavík Lights Hotel. Breakfast provided.

day 4: Explore the city at your own pace—perhaps stopping to see modern art at Reykjavík Art Museum, enjoy a peaceful walk at Tjörnin Lake, and learn about Viking history at Reykjavík 871 +/-2.
Overnight at Reykjavík Lights Hotel. Breakfast provided.

day 5: Check out of your hotel, then board the provided auto transportation for a trip to Blue Lagoon, a geothermal spa in the youngest lava field in west Iceland. Take a dip in the milky blue waters, or simply amble around and enjoy the beautiful scenery. Don't forget to dine at the on-site restaurant and visit the skin care shop, where guests can purchase products containing the lagoon's unique blend of minerals, silica, and algae. From the Lagoon, you'll be driven to the airport to board your flight back to the US.
