Soak up the buzz in Asia's most cosmopolitan city and watch the sun set over the continent's most alluring ancient ruins.

The Destinations
Tree roots crisscross ancient temple walls dotted with elaborate carvings. Monkeys call from the nearby jungle canopy. And the late afternoon sun sets long shadows on broad canals built centuries ago by the Khmer king. This can be only one place: Cambodia. Although it's hard to believe, the romantic jungles around the city of Siem Reap were once a center of global commerce, education, and culture. Today, Angkor Wat and the other ruins of the Khmer Empire have turned the small city into one of the top destinations in Asia.

If once-bustling Angkor has a 21st-century equivalent, it might be Singapore. This cosmopolitan city-state is on the cutting edge of technology, trade, and urban planning. Soaring skyscrapers punctuate the skyline, while on street level, the city's famous hawker markets serve up delicious food with roots in China, India, and the Malay Peninsula. In the city's frenetic shopping malls, you will find high-end clothes, electronics, and other goods from all over the world. But even in this booming metropolis, it is easy to escape to one of the city's many lush parks or palm-lined tropical beaches.

Explore both faces of Asia—the old and the new—with this itinerary from Globotours.
