The Destination
There's no better place see the Northern Lights than in Iceland. Just outside the Arctic Circle, the country's winter nights are longer and darker than almost anywhere else in the world—the perfect canvas for a mystical lights show. Despite the latitude, warm ocean currents make the climate more similar to New England's than Siberia's. Along the country's Golden Circle, stop to marvel at roaring waterfalls, bubbling hot springs, and towering geysers—all the result of Iceland's unique geothermal activity. And no trip would be complete without a dip in the Blue Lagoon, which owes its striking color to volcanic minerals that turn the hot spring water milky blue. Iceland's astounding natural phenomena and pitch-black sky will redefine your idea of a winter wonderland. Explore it all with a little help from Arctic Adventures.

The Itinerary
day 1: Arrive in Reykjavik and take a private airport transfer for the group (if the group arrives together, otherwise on a scheduled airport bus). You'll begin your stay with a welcome meeting at the hotel, then head out into the frosty night for the Northern Lights Explorer tour. In a custom 4x4 Jeep, the group will make its way beyond the lights of the city and off the beaten path to arrive at a clear viewing point. After the show, you'll head back to rest for the evening at Hotel Odinsve, a luxury hotel situated right downtown.
Overnight at Hotel Odinsve.

day 2: After breakfast in the morning, you'll head out for the Blue Ice tour, which takes guests to the frozen glacial tongue known as Sólheimajökull. It's punctuated with sink holes, ice formations, and rugged ridges, where you'll get to do a bit of hiking. Then it's off for an introduction to ice climbing, for which you'll be provided an ice axe, crampons, and safety lines.
Overnight at Hotel Odinsve. Breakfast provided.

day 3: Today you'll take the Golden Circle Explorer tour, which begins with an underground visit to the ancient lava fields of the Blue Mountains. After an awe-inspiring hike through the lava tube, you'll head out for Gullfoss, a thunderous waterfall that plummets down three steps of lava layers. Then it's off to the geothermal marvel that is Geysir, which comes alive with explosive force as superheated water erupts from the earth. The last stop will be the famous Þingvellir National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the original birthplace of the world's oldest existing parliament. It's here that the tectonic plates of America and Europe meet, and the rift valley is clearly visible. From there it's a short drive back to Reykjavik.
Overnight at Hotel Odinsve. Breakfast provided.

day 4: After breakfast this morning, you'll head out for a trip to the Blue Lagoon, a geothermal spa where visitors can relax, soak up the healing waters, and chat with other visitors. Then it's back to Reykjavik, where you'll have the rest of the day to explore the city at your leisure.
Overnight at Hotel Odinsve. Breakfast provided.

day 5: After breakfast, you'll depart via private transfer with the group for your flight home (if the group arrives together, otherwise on a scheduled airport bus).
Breakfast provided.
