The Destination
Tanzania tops any wildlife-lover's bucket list. It is, after all, home to the world's highest concentration of national parks—14 of them in all. On the vast plains of the Serengeti, visitors can take in an annual wildebeest migration that stands as one of the world's most awe-inspiring natural spectacles. At the Ngorongoro Crater, which boasts one of the densest populations of lions on earth, you'll have a chance to spot big cats, exotic birds, wild pachyderms, and more. Animals you've only seen cooped up in a zoo abound in this southeast African country, all in front of an equally breathtaking backdrop you've only seen in magazines. Explore it all, courtesy of Great Safaris.

The Itinerary
day 1: The excitement begins with your overnight flight to Tanzania.

day 2: Arrive at the Kilimanjaro International Airport (land-only service begins here), where you'll be met by a Great Safaris representative and transferred to your hotel, which sits on a fragrant coffee plantation in the foothills of Mount Meru.
Overnight Arusha Coffee Lodge.

day 3: Spend the morning at leisure, then attend a safari briefing before lunch. In the afternoon, you'll saddle up in a safari vehicle and head through the Masai Steppe, which is filled with many picturesque African villages as well as maize, coffee, and banana plantations. Continuing through Mukuyuni, the journey takes you up through a scenic escarpment that brings you to your lodge, perched on the edge of the Rift Valley with stunning views over the distant Lake Manyara.
Overnight at Lake Manyara Serena Safari Lodge. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner provided.

day 4: After breakfast, get ready for a game drive in Lake Manyara National Park. After lunch at the lodge, the journey continues across the stunning hilly countryside of the highlands—filled with wheat and coffee plantations—and into the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. From here lie the vast plains of the Serengeti, where you might start spotting game well before arrival at the park.
Overnight at Serengeti Sopa Lodge. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner provided.

day 5: Today you'll attend two game drives in Serengeti National Park, one in the morning and the other after lunch in the afternoon. Expect to see the big five: lions, elephants, rhinos, buffaloes, and leopards.
Overnight at Serengeti Sopa Lodge. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner provided.

day 6: After breakfast you'll depart for Ngorongoro, viewing game across the vast Serengeti plains and stopping off en route for your picnic lunch. Continue on to Ngorongoro, where you'll visit a Masai Village before arriving at your lodge, set high on the rim of Ngorongoro Crater.
Overnight at Ngorongoro Sopa Lodge. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner provided.

day 7: A highlight awaits you this morning as you depart to explore what is commonly referred to as the world's largest wildlife zoo. After breakfast, pack up your picnic lunch and descend 2,000 feet through the morning mists into the crater. This is the world's largest intact volcanic caldera and, due to its size and diversity, comprises several distinct areas, ranging from forest, swamps, lakes and springs, to open grassland and sandy dunes. Lunch is served near a small lake filled with hippos, then it's back to game viewing before returning to the crater's rim and your lodge.
Overnight at Ngorongoro Sopa Lodge. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner provided.

day 8: Depart Ngorongoro Crater after breakfast and head southeast en route to Lake Manyara, Mto wa Mbu village, Tarangire, and beyond. Through the highlands and the Karatu District, you'll view the scenic wheat plains and coffee plantations here before journeying down the spectacular escarpment, where you'll turn south onto the main Arusha–Dodoma road and into the park. From here to the lodge, you'll enjoy a game drive en route. After lunch and perhaps a swim, the remainder of the afternoon will be spent on a game drive.
Overnight at Tarangire Sopa Lodge. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner provided.

day 9: Depart for Arusha after breakfast. The journey will pass through the Masai Steppe, filled with many picturesque African villages as well as maize, coffee, and banana plantations. On arrival in Arusha, you'll be transferred to Arusha for lunch. After lunch, you'll return to Kilimanjaro International Airport by road transfer for your departing flight (land-only service ends here).
Breakfast and lunch provided.
