The Destination
The scenes of Peru are every bit as magical as you'd imagine: vine-draped ruins of mysterious civilizations sitting atop the world; vintage motorboats humming over the waters of vast mountain lakes; and remote jungle paths and clattering craft markets, both bursting with life.

Two very different cities play a central role in Peru's story: In the capital Lima, stylish urbanites sip pisco sours and savor fresh ceviche at modern cafés, while venerable museums house ancient Inca artifacts and intricate Spanish cathedrals provide Colonial charm. High above, in the cloud halos that ring the Andean peaks, the ancient Inca city of Machu Picchu stuns with precisely cut walls, terraces, and ramps—not to mention dizzying views of mountain spires in every direction. Equally astonishing is that Machu Picchu went undiscovered until 1911.

From there, the adventure continues in Cusco—the 500-year-old former capital of the Inca Empire boasting huge plazas with bustling outdoor markets and jubilant displays of music and dancing—before shifting scenes to the shores of vast Lake Titicaca, where the merchant city of Puno overlooks floating islands and hand-painted boats bobbing in the breeze.

Experience Peru from beginning to end with this 12-day trip to Lima, Macchu Picchu, Cusco, and Puno, courtesy of Valencia Travel Cusco.

The Itinerary
day 1: Board your overnight flight from Miami to Lima, Peru.

day 2: Arrive at the airport in Lima, where a Valencia Travel Cusco representative will be waiting to transport you to your hotel in the district of Miraflores. In the afternoon, you'll embark on a guided city tour with stops at Huaca Pucllana, the historic center of Lima, the Colonial buildings, the Central Bank Museum, the Monastery of San Francisco, and modern Lima.
Overnight at Casa Andina Classic Miraflores San Antonio or Hotel San Agustin Colonial. Breakfast provided.

day 3: In the morning, you'll be transported to the airport to catch a flight to Arequipa, the second-largest city in Peru. A tour representative will pick you up from the Arequipa airport and bring you to your hotel. You'll have time in the afternoon to explore the "White City," named for its extensive architectural use of the pale stone ashlar.
Overnight at Casa Andina Classic Arequipa or Hotel San Agustin Posada del Monasterio. Breakfast provided.

day 4: Rise and shine for an early-morning bus ride to the Colca Canyon. The four-hour drive will show you some of Peru's most stunning scenery, including the steep canyon formed by the Colca River cutting through the valley. You'll stop in Chivay, a small town in the valley upstream from the canyon.
Overnight at Casa Andina Classic Colca. Breakfast provided.

day 5: You'll wake before dawn and set out for Cruz del Condor, a popular lookout point on the rim of the canyon offering views of its incredible depth and, if you're lucky, the legendary Andean condor. These majestic birds have a wingspan of up to 11 feet and play an important role in Andean folklore, becoming national symbols for numerous South American countries. After your visit to Cruz del Condor, double back in the direction of Chivay, visiting a few small villages along the way. You'll enjoy an afternoon in Chivay before beginning the journey to Puno, the folklore capital of Peru on the shores of Lake Titicaca.
Overnight at Casa Andina Classic Puno Tikarani. Breakfast provided.

day 6: The day will begin with an hour-long boat ride to the Uros Islands, a floating village of 42 islands made by the Uru people of Lake Titicaca. From here, you'll continue to Taquile Island, whose residents are renowned for being the best weavers in Peru. Walk to the crest of the island to visit the community at midday. You'll return to Puno in the afternoon.
Overnight at Casa Andina Classic Puno Tikarani. Breakfast provided.

day 7: Board an early bus for a three-hour drive skirting Lake Titicaca on your way to Copacabana, Bolivia. Here, you'll visit the Shine of La Virgin de la Morenada. The afternoon calls for a catamaran cruise to Isla del Sol, where your group will tour the archaeological site of Pilko Kaina, an Inca temple. Scale the steps of Yumani up to the fountain of youth for a splash of sacred water, then return to Copacabana, where a bus will await to take you back to Puno.
Overnight at Casa Andina Classic Puno Tikarani. Breakfast provided.

day 8: In the morning, you'll be transported to the bus station for the ride to Cusco. Your bus trip includes four stops with guided tours of important landmarks. First, you'll visit Pukara, an ancient Inca ceremonial site. You'll also enjoy a buffet lunch in Sicuani. Next up, the bus will stop at La Raya, the midpoint between Puno and Cusco and the highest elevation on your journey at 14,200 feet above sea level. La Raya also marks the geographic border between the Quechua and Aymara cultures and is home to archetypal Andean animals like llamas, alpacas, and vicuñas. Your last two stops will be Raqchi, a former Inca church, and Andahuyalillas, the Sistine Chapel of South America decorated with stunning Andean religious art. The bus will arrive in Cusco by early evening.
Overnight at Casa Andina Classic Cusco Plaza. Breakfast and lunch provided.

day 9: After seven days of planned activities, today will be yours to explore Cusco at your leisure. If you like, you can participate in an optional free walking tour of Cusco, with stops at the main plaza, Plaza Nazarenas, the San Blas neighborhood, the Twelve-Angle Stone, and the San Pedro market.
Overnight at Casa Andina Classic Cusco Plaza. Breakfast provided.

day 10: The morning begins at the rail station, where you'll catch a 3.5-hour train to Aguas Calientes, a small town famed for its hot springs near Machu Picchu. The remainder of the day will be free to do as you please.
Overnight at Machu Picchu Green Nature. Breakfast provided.

day 11: Wake bright and early to catch a pre-dawn bus to Machu Picchu. You should arrive in time to see the sunrise, then begin a two-hour walking tour with your guide. You'll enjoy some free time to explore Machu Picchu on your own before returning to Aguas Calientes. Your guide will give you tickets for the expedition train back to Cusco. The train's route takes passengers through the Sacred Valley of the Incas and each car has windows all around for views of the gorgeous scenery and landmarks between Aguas Calientes and Cusco.
Overnight at Casa Andina Classic Cusco Plaza. Breakfast provided.

day 12: After a relaxing morning, bid goodbye to Peru, then transfer to the Cusco airport for your return flight to Miami.
