Experience historic Annapolis at one of its first—and loveliest—bed and breakfasts. Opt for a half-day sailing trip or just enjoy the maritime-themed rooms and an enviable location, which continue to attract visitors more than a century later.

The Destination
A city of docks and crimson brick boutiques, Annapolis has all the fresh seafood and nautical shops you'd expect of its Chesapeake Bay location. Revel in the Atlantic's saltwater breezes, take in Main Street's Georgian facades, or bolster your American history know-how with a visit to the Maryland State House—the historic building once served as the nation's Capitol.

The Digs
If the Annapolitan Bed & Breakfast seems to have hospitality down to a science, that's because it has more than 100 years of practice. In fact, it was one of the first establishments to host guests in Annapolis and boasts an unbeatable location less than two miles from downtown and the Naval Academy. Inside, guest rooms are outfitted with sailing-themed décor, luxury linens, and private baths. Best of all, guests awake each morning to a three-course gourmet breakfast prepared with seasonal ingredients.

The Diversions
Opt for the half-day sailing trip, and you're in for a treat. Leave from Annapolis at 10:30 a.m. or 2:30 p.m. and head up the Severn River in the beautiful Granmar; life vests are provided for each guest. Spend several hours spotting landmarks like the Chesapeake Bay Bridge or Thomas Point Lighthouse, all while snacking on fruit, cheese, and your choice of champagne, wine, beer, or non-alcoholic beverages. There's no better way to soak up all that the sailing capital of the country has to offer.
