The Destination
Capturing the simple charm of a quiet main street busy with seasonal festivals and a rolling mountain backdrop, the town of Helen, Georgia, offers a quiet Appalachian respite just 90 minutes from Atlanta. Gone are the crowds and high rises of the city—fishing poles and rafting oars on the Chattahoochee River are much more prevalent in the summer, as are strolls down twinkling cobblestone streets in the winter. Hunt for antiques in the historic Alpine village, go for a hike in the nearby state parks, or sit back for a tasting at a local winery—whatever you do, just drink it in slowly.

The Digs
Peppered among the edges of rustic pine tree groves, the cabins outfitted by A-1 Vacation Rentals are individually decorated homes equipped to suit a range of tastes and group sizes. Stay in the two-bedroom Alpine Rose cabin and enjoy two televisions, a hot tub, and a grill on the deck. Or, choose the Fallow Run cabin for four guests, and nestle into a space that features a fireplace, hot tub, and two bathrooms. With more than a dozen cabins to choose from, you'll have your pick of the perfect view from which to watch the sun set behind the mountain horizon.

The Diversions
• Spy black bears and more on a biking excursion through the Chattahoochee-Oconee National Forest
• Have a post-hike picnic at Anna Ruby Falls
• Float down the Chattahoochee River on an inner-tube with Shoot the Hooch
• Share a pie at Nacoochee Village Tavern and Pizzeria for a filling dinner
