The Destination
Stepping out into California's Gold Rush region—just a short drive from Yosemite National Park—is like stepping onto a movie set. Perhaps that's why countless Hollywood Westerns were filmed right here in these hills. From saloon fronts frozen in time to the orange and pistachio fields beyond the mountains, this slice of Americana has wrangled the imaginations of many. And beyond Gold Country lies a whole other awe-inspiring landscape: Yosemite. Open year-round, the park is rife with nooks and vistas just waiting to be discovered.

The Digs
Experience the best of the region at the newly renovated Yosemite Gold Country Lodge, situated just off Highway 49 in the throwback mining town of Coulterville. It's only a 25-minute drive from Yosemite and 15 minutes from Lake McClure, Lake McSwain, and historic Jamestown. Inside, guests are greeted with beautifully renovated rooms—think hardwood floors, lodgepole pine furnishings, and marble bathrooms—that are equipped with satellite TV and high-speed Internet. Outside, you'll have access to a hot tub—just the spot for a soothing soak after a brisk day in the park.

The Details
• Two-Queen Rooms can accommodate an extra two people for $20 per person per night
• Pets can experience the great outdoors, too—just bring $50 to cover their stay at the lodge

  • Great place. Nice hosts. Very clean with comfortable beds, and fully remodeled. The little town is a big kick, with lots of Gold Rush history. Yosemite is always beautiful and worth the drive.

  • The rooms were comfortable and nicely renovated. Safe, quiet, and close to Yosemite. Customer service was impeccable. Thanks!
