The Destinations
The past is present in Athens: The ruins of the Acropolis and crumbling columns of the Parthenon sit high above the city for all to see, while to the west, the ancient Agora marketplace once heard the echos of Socrates' public speeches. But the noisier, surging present is always right around the corner, most evident in the high fashion scene on Ermou Street and the nightlife that spills over to morning in the city's Kolonaki neighborhood.

Once you've worn out the city (or vice versa), you'll find all the laid-back luxury you can dream up on a cruise through the Greek Isles aboard Louis Cruises' MV Olympia, spending four nights aboard the ship and visiting a host of breathtaking locales during the day. The winding roads and Cycladic architecture of Mykonos look like a scene from the movies, while the island's cosmopolitan lifestyle gives it an undeniable "cool" very different from anything you'll experience on the Greek mainland. Beyond Mykonos, you'll visit Kusadasi, Turkey; Patmos; Rhodes; Heraklion; Crete; and Santorini, where the craggy coastline, iconic white cliffside homes, and inimitable cuisine make this one of the most romantic countries on earth. See it all, courtesy of Friendly Planet Travel.

Its mighty fortifications provide the finest surviving examples of defensive architecture of the time. Lindos, with its whitewashed houses clustered beneath a soaring castle-capped acropolis, is Rhodes's most picturesque village and most important Doric settlement because of its natural harbor and vantage point built 125 meters above sea level. day 6: heraklion - crete - santorini
Arrive in Heraklion early this morning. Back in Heraklion, the open-air market is a must-see, where a boisterous crowd buys and sells everything from goats and sheep to huge cauldrons of fresh yogurt. Other points of interest here include the Archaeological Museum, one of the finest in Greece, housing exquisite findings from Knossos and other Minoan ruins, numerous Venetian fortresses, fountains and loggias scattered throughout the city and the Historical Museum of Crete, with its Byzantine and folklore collections. Explore Heraklion on your own, or enjoy a variety of optional shore excursions. Return to the ship to continue sailing to Santorini. Upon arrival in this beautiful city, you'll have the option of exploring on your own or joining a variety of optional excursions. Return to the ship for a final evening at sea.
