Wine is fine and beer is sometimes the clear choice, but we recommend shaking things up this summer with the latest event at LivingSocial's 918 F Street. Pay $45 for a mixology class on making tiki cocktails with Founding Farmers' RAMMY award-winning chief mixologist, Jon Arroyo. During this 90-minute lesson, Arroyo will take you through the history of the tiki cocktail and learn about four classic drinks, all made with the original recipes created by pioneer tiki master Don the Beachcomber. Click here for currently available dates, then swing through this stunning space to stir up your summer offerings with this one-of-a-kind class. This is one class that goes down well whether shaken or stirred.
'We thought this class was great. It was personal, interesting and fun! We would definitely come again to another class!'
Behind the scenes...
2011 RAMMY award-winning mixologist, Jon Arroyo helms this one-of-a-kind class to teach you the history of and how to make the perfect summer cocktails.
On the menu: the Mai Tai, a classic rum cocktail made with, among other ingredients, almond syrup; the Scorpion, a more serious concoction of fresh fruit juices, brandy, and rum; and finally, the Zombie, a hefty combination of some ten ingredients, including a few kinds of rum, absinthe, and a slew of fresh fruit juices. After you take in the demonstration on how to create each cocktail and enjoy tastes of each, you'll get the chance to create your own Painkiller, a coconut, fruity cocktail made famous in 1936 at the Soggy Dollar bar in Jos Van Dyke. Go ahead, teach your taste buds to love something a bit more rum-y this season.
