This deal pays homage to the original kitchen cage-match: Learn to make your own sushi rolls, taste three different sakes, and compete in a master sushi-rolling contest at Chiso, a mainstay of quality Japanese food in funky Fremont.
We'll watch as the restaurant's owner and expert sushi chef Hirohiko Kirita demonstrates the art of rolling, and then try our own hands at making each rice-and-seaweed-filling combo before progressing to the next how-to. As we learn to roll, we'll also sample three different varieties of sake -- all served in custom LivingSocial glasses -- and enjoy a full glass of our favorite.
For the competition, we'll split into teams, each using secret ingredients (think: chili flakes, asparagus, and miso ice cream) to create the most unusual -- and most delicious -- roll possible. The winning team will be determined by both Chiso and LivingSocial staff and will receive a special treat. Even better: No one will walk away empty handed. Each contestant will leave with a souvenir sake cup... so the tasty battle can rage on at home.
Learn how to make these five specialties:
Temaki (hand roll with tempura shrimp)
Hosomaki (skinny roll with cucumber)
Futomaki (fat roll with spicy tuna)
Uramaki (California-style roll)
