Celebrate your love for canines and confections when the two worlds collide at the 12th Annual Sugar & Champagne Affair, an event to support the Washington Humane Society; 100% of proceeds go to the animal welfare organization. At the general reception ($90) -- open to two- and four-legged guests -- there'll be sweet and savory bites from more than 50 restaurants and sparkling wine and top-shelf spirits from more than 30 labels. A VIP ticket ($150) includes entrance to the general event plus access to the pre-event Chefs' Tasting Room with savory food from some of DC's best chefs.

For the fundraiser, hosted by Todd Gray and Ellen Kassoff Gray of Equinox Restaurant and Muse, pastry chefs pull out all the stops: Past events have included sugar-based life-size replicas of dogs, cakes in the shape of fire hydrants, and dog-friendly confections. New this year, emcee Tommy McFly (of 94.7 Fresh FM Radio) will stir things up during the Cake Walk, where a few lucky guests will get to bid on and take home a specialty cake created especially for the event by five of the celebrity pastry chefs in attendance. At the VIP event -- which also gives you admission to the general reception -- a collection of Washington's most acclaimed chefs will prepare savory dishes to balance the sweet.

Once a year, it doesn't matter that your fancypants are covered in dog fur.
