Befitting of its home near the overflowing produce stands of Pike Place Market, newcomer Marché is devoted to showcasing locally grown and seasonally appropriate ingredients. And with today's Gourmet offer, you can savor the splendors of summer by attending a hosted dinner party on Wednesday, June 20 ($125, including gratuity and all other fees). The two-and-a-half hour dinner includes four courses, wine pairings, and a Marché-monogrammed wine glass to take home. After dinner, a photographer will snap photos of guests with chef Daisley Gordon and sommelier Cyril Frechier in the dining room, with a view of the Puget Sound and glowing Pike Place Market sign in the background. Best of all, the restaurant staff will mail the photos to the guests with a signed menu.
The evening gets underway in the courtyard, where guests mingle with glasses of rosé; Frechier says he'll be bringing in limited-supply varieties from around the world. With more than 30 years of wine knowledge and experience, Frechier has received numerous awards and accolades, including Wine Spectator's Award of Excellence. While socializing in the courtyard, he'll talk about rosé production and the regions of its origin, as well as field questions from the dinner guests. The cocktail-style welcoming will also feature three savory galettes made with Northwest ingredients: Expect a butter-spiced prawn tart with arugula, a wild mushroom tart with leek custard, and a pissaladière tart with caramelized onions.
Then, guests move indoors for three seated courses: Alaskan halibut dumplings with sweet English peas, a risotto à la bouillabaisse with locally caught shellfish, and for dessert, a selection of cheeses with walnuts and honey. And to really amp up the night's offerings, Frechier will pour glasses of a 2010 Chateau Haut Selve from France, a 2009 Castello di Verduno from Italy, and a 2010 Domaine Labranche Laffont from France, respectively. Chef Gordon will also accompany the sommelier in the dining room as the duo presents each plate and pairing. Unwinding in the midst of the market? That's a midsummer night's dream.
