About Cactus Salon and Spa

In 1978, owner Joseph Secreti opened the first Cactus Salon and Spa in Dix Hills, New York, with the intention of offering top salon and spa services.

Today, after 38 years in the market, Cactus is a beloved beauty destination on Long Island. With its 8 locations and more than 300 employees, it is regarded as one of the most “successful” hair salons on Long Island.

Known for its unique straightening systems that change the molecular structure of hair, and its ever-popular blowouts, the salon, under the leadership of its Marketing Director Karen Vito, has cultivated a loyal customer base. Furthermore, Cactus differentiates itself by offering an array of services beyond simple haircuts and styling.

Chemical services, silk wrap extensions, facials, spray tanning, and massages are all examples of unique services offered by Cactus that sets them apart from the competition and allows them to be a “one-stop shop” for customers.

“We started to really bring top beauty services to the people who just want to look and feel their very best.

I wish everyone knew how hard we have been working during the last 9 years to please all of our clients.”

The Challenge

Once they had a following of salon and spa customers, Cactus began investing in its people by continuing education and expert training to ensure they stay up-to-date with the most cutting-edge services in the industry—a practice they still abide by today.

However, despite its very loyal clientele and well-established business, Cactus Salon and Spa was feeling the pressure of numerous competitors, vying for the same clientele in the Long Island area.

“One of the biggest challenges we face is that there's so much competition here on Long Island. There are salons all over”, says Karen.

The Results

When faced with the growing competition, Cactus Salon and Spa turned to Groupon for help promoting its salon and spa services to a new audience of prospective customers who might not have discovered the salon otherwise. The results were impressive.

“We have added over 65,000 new customers thanks to Groupon, and a lot of them became returning customers. In fact, today 33% of the clients we service started as Groupon customers.” Karen notes.

A double win for Cactus as they have been able to boost not only their clientele but customer retention as well!
