Jae So, owner of Palace Korean Bar & Grill in Bellevue, Washington, opened his restaurant to share his family culinary traditions and offer his customers a cozy and welcoming experience.
In his words, “I wanted to showcase my mother’s cooking and my grandmother’s cooking, and bring all of the flavors of Korean food into a venue where everyone could try and enjoy them.”
At Palace, customers are treated to an array of proteins, from chicken to pork, grilled right at their table, where the diners can cook over a small stove. Jay is particularly proud of their BBQ short ribs, the standout specialty of the house, among the many all-you-can-eat options.
Despite Jay's dedication and the unique dining experience Palace Korean Barbecue offers, the restaurant faced a significant hurdle.
When the restaurant economy took a dip, Jae worried Palace might be forced to close. “Our sales were soft and we were through some economic hard times,” he says.
In a bid to turn things around, Jay decided to partner with Groupon, in the hopes that a partnership could keep customers coming through the door, keeping his business afloat.
This strategic move proved to be incredibly successful. In Jay’s words, “Groupon allowed us to reach a huge audience base. When they came onboard, we saw revenue increase by 40%”.
Groupon helped Palace Korean Barbecue acquire approximately 70,000 new customers, significantly boosting the restaurant’s profile.
Jay firmly believes that without Groupon, “my business might not be here”.
