About Sisters of the New South

Sisters of the New South is a beloved soul food restaurant in Savannah, Georgia, known for its mouthwatering fried chicken, savory oxtail, and world-famous peach cobbler. Founded nine years ago by Kenneth Brown, the business began as a family-run operation with a commitment to delivering high-quality food reminiscent of homemade meals.

"The one thing I wish people knew is that at Sisters of the New South, the quality of food cannot be beat at any price," says Kenneth. The restaurant serves a diverse community, connecting patrons with authentic Southern flavors. Over the years, Sisters of the New South has expanded its reach through catering services and partnerships, bringing joy and comfort food to thousands.

“What makes us the most proud of our business?

When somebody comes in and they say that it reminds them of their grandmother's cooking.”

The Challenge

Every business faces growing pains, and for Sisters of the New South, the main hurdle was visibility. "One of the biggest challenges we have is making sure people know that we have a great product at a fair price," Kenneth shares.

Although the restaurant was delivering unforgettable dishes, many locals and visitors were unaware of its offerings. Competing in Savannah's bustling food scene also meant standing out in a city where every corner offers enticing culinary options. Another challenge was scaling operations to meet demand while maintaining the intimate, family-style experience that defined Sisters of the New South’s identity. With limited staff and resources in the early days, expanding without compromising quality was no small feat.

The Results

Sisters of the New South found a game-changer in Groupon. "About 8% of our clients use Groupon. We started running Groupon one month after we started our business, and it immediately provided us with a 20% sales increase," Kenneth says. This partnership not only boosted sales but also introduced the restaurant to an impressive 8,000 new customers per year. Weekly repeat customers grew to over 100, while the catering arm of the business flourished.

With Groupon’s reach, the restaurant expanded its staff from five family members to a team of 18 dedicated employees. The increase in revenue and exposure helped solidify Sisters of the New South as a community cornerstone, all while maintaining the same high quality and customer-first service.

“Groupon has allowed us to connect people with amazing food and memories—it’s helped us thrive in our community.”
