Property at a Glance: Great Wolf Lodge Traverse City

The heart and soul of Great Wolf Lodge Traverse City is its 38,000-square-foot indoor water park. Splashy rides such as the River Canyon Run—a raft water slide—and a winding lazy river surround the park’s iconic hub: a four-story treehouse with a 1,000-gallon tipping bucket. Younger kids will have a blast with the water slides and gentle spray features of Whooping Hollow and Cub Paw Pool.

The water park, which hovers around 84 degrees all year long, isn’t the resort’s only family-friendly activity. You’ll also find mini bowling at Ten Paw Alley and an arcade with more than 100 games.

  • Extended water park access: You can enter the water park at 1 p.m. on the day you check in and stay until close on the day you check out (essentially 2 days’ water park admission).
  • Family-friendly fun: The resort offers games and activities for kids of all ages. Explore activities by age group here.
  • Hands-on crafts and activities such as face painting and balloon twisting during the Lunch Time Lineup can entertain young children when they want a break from the water park.
  • Roomy suites comfortably sleep up to six people. Some units provide extra privacy with enclosed bunk beds.
  • Restaurants galore: The resort contains five restaurants and snack bars, where you can dig into everything from pizza to Cuban sandwiches.
  • Add a Paw Pass or Pup Pass to your stay to enjoy kid-friendly activities and sweets at Creation Station, MagiQuest, Bear Paw Sweets & Eats, and more at a discounted rate. See everything that’s included—as well as other available packages—here (additional fees apply).
  • Safety first: Complimentary life jackets in multiple sizes and trained lifeguards keep families safe and secure.
  • Driving time from Grand Rapids and Lansing: about 2.5 hours from Grand Rapids and 3 hours from Lansing

The waterpark is great, and the kids love it. My wife and I enjoy the lazy river and adult hot tub while the kids are running around and having fun. The kids also loved the clock play, yoga in the morning, and the arcade. The hotel room is just ok. The bed in our room was terrible. It was a cheap old mattress with lumps and sags. The pillows were similar to a bag of cotton with no real support. Next time we will stay at another hotel and just get day passes. A day after we left the park, I noticed a new charge on my credit card for $15 + tax for a towel charge. I was able to call the front desk and have them remove that charge.

We have been coming to GWL for 15 years. No matter what we make sure the kids have a great time. This comes at a premium but that’s just how it is at GWL. Unhappy we were given the wrong room number-poor grumpy dad must have been napping as our group of 6 tried to storm his room. No late night mom shower water went out at 11….with a 1am text to wake me to say it was back on. Hair on bathroom floors and in folded extra blanket on shelf. No furniture to lounge on-extremely inconvenient! When kids are doing their wand games parents have no where to relax but a slab stone in front of fireplace. Dunkin’ doughnuts line a mile long but only 4 tables with 4 chairs each so we sat on the floor in the lobby bc I do not like to make a mess in our room that only has two chairs at a table. And the wand game do not get me started…my daughter was stuck in one for almost an hour to get her magi something only to find out that one of the crystals is not working-this should be told at the beginning of your wand activation. Activities need to start earlier my kids were up at 530-nothing begins until 9 and the water park does not even open until 10-oh wait the arcade where each game is about 2.50 a piece times a family of 6…adds up quick but again that’s just GWL.

Our room wasn’t ready until 5:30pm (the check in time is 4pm). The water park was extremely over-crowded. One of the slides was closed. Finding a tube was impossible. There were more people in the water park than they could comfortably accommodate.
