Option 1: Online Driving Course

California State-Certified

  • Includes comprehensive instruction on road signs, traffic laws, and defensive driving.
  • Receive your Official Certificate of Completion (DL 400C) required for the DMV written permit test.

Option 2: Teens Group Driving Lessons

Three In-Person Sessions

  • Satisfies California's 6-hour professional behind-the-wheel training requirement with three 2-hour sessions.
  • Learn in a supportive group environment with a DMV-licensed instructor focusing on highway merging, parallel parking, and hazard recognition.
  • Instructor signs and legally activates your permit after the first lesson so you can practice with guardians.

The 3-Step Path to Your Permit & License

  1. Driver Education

    Option 1 provides the 30-hour online course and the DL 400C certificate you need to move forward.

  2. DMV Written Test

    Take your certificate to the DMV, pass the 46-question written exam, and receive your learner’s permit.

  3. Behind-the-Wheel

    Option 2 provides the 6 hours of professional training required to validate your permit and prepare for your final driving test.

Important Details

  • Age Requirement

    Students must be at least 15½ to start the process and receive a permit.

  • In-Person Locations

  • Additional Practice

    After completing Step 3, teens must still complete 50 hours of supervised practice with a licensed adult (25+) before taking their final DMV road test.
