When only learning about the resort and self parking fees on check-in, it gets the stay off to a bad start. This was the second time we've stayed here and, while enjoyed the stay both times, feel this missed the mark. Walking into the property is impressive. The open-air courtyard is filled with ocean sounds, birds, plants, and penguins. The landscape is meticulously maintained and is a welcome change. The pool is divided into two main sections that are connected via waterfall/tunnel for both adults and children; I didn't discover the water slide until our second trip. With drinks served to your chairs, the pool can get a bit too festive at times but nothing overwhelming - we're both mid-30's. You'll need to be patient to get a chair close to the pool. The rooms were clean, good internet connection, flatscreen tv, and seemed modern. The bed was comfortable - though the pillows were too bulky for me. My two biggest complaints both times are parking (even finding one can be difficult) and potentially bad views. Parking spaces are so close together you need to park the car on the passenger side in to be able to squeeze out. Most the rooms look over the pool/beach/garden but unlucky guests (1/4 of the rooms) will look over a parking lot and/or new construction. The main motivation for coming back was to re-live the places we stayed and went on our honeymoon. While I'm glad we stayed here twice, it wasn't as romantic/secluded as the Makena area. Next time we'll probably branch out and find something with better snorkeling and no fees.
pros: Vibrant atmosphere while still offering family friendly activities. Central courtyard is impressive; penguins are cute. You'll have to try the water slide.
cons: Parking was terrible both times we stayed there - I believe they charge you per-day to self park. Priceline doesn't include the resort fee if you name your own price! There wasn't a lot of beach at high-low tide.
